CargoX platform adopts new DCSA standard recently approved by IG P&I in major leap forward for shipping digitalisation with eBL interoperability
(Ljubljana, SLOVENIA – 4th June 2026) CargoX, one of the leading providers of electronic trade documents, is one of just a handful of providers to adopt the DCSA Standard Annex for electronic bill of lading (eBL) Platform Interoperability v.2, a new standard recently approved by International Group of P&I Clubs.
The Annex is an industry-led framework that aims to provide guidance and standards across technical, governance and legal interoperability. At a time when 71% of respondents to a FIT Alliance survey highlighted interoperability as a barrier to eBL adoption,1 defining and implementing clear standards is critical for stakeholders to enjoy the benefits of the technology.
CargoX’s adoption underlines its commitment to both enabling the adoption of standards and helping shipping stakeholders benefit from using the technology. It is also just the latest result of the company’s participation in the building of standards. In May 2025, CargoX was part of the first live, standards-based interoperable eBL transaction, using the DCSA’s data standards and interoperability components.
Interoperability is vital to the adoption of new technologies. Cell phones are now ubiquitous in part because they are completely interoperable, something wasn’t always the case. The seamless transfer of eBL will only be possible when we have that, and the DCSA Standard Annex for electronic bill of lading (eBL) Platform Interoperability v.2 is a significant step forward towards that goal.
The significance of this moment lies in the decision the eBL platforms have made on behalf of their customers. CargoX and the other providers could have kept their users within their own networks. Instead, they have chosen to let them connect across the industry. For shippers, banks and freight forwarders, that means the freedom to work with any partner without being tied to a single system, which is what the market has been asking for and what makes widespread eBL adoption realistic.
